Manhattan’s DA Wanted A Friday Trump Arrest – Trump’s Team Said No

After a grand jury’s decision to prosecute the former president, the Manhattan district attorney’s office requested that Donald Trump turn himself in on Friday.

Nevertheless, Trump’s legal team rejected the motion, claiming that additional time was needed for the Secret Service to arrange for their security detail for the former president.

The conversation, which a law enforcement source told POLITICO about and former president’s attorney Joe Tacopina confirmed, highlights how sensitive and unheard-of the indictment is. No former president in history had ever faced criminal charges prior to Thursday. And the country now finds itself in uncharted legal and political territory as a result of both the accusations themselves and their application.

An inquiry for comment was not immediately answered by a D.A.’s office representative.

Trump is anticipated to turn himself in to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, although Tacopina stated that no specific date has been established. The Secret Service will ultimately need to work with the New York Police Department and court officials to organize the terms of the surrender.

Trump’s likely primary rival in 2024, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, said on Twitter on Thursday that his state would “not assist in an extradition request given the questionable circumstances at issue” with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, despite the fact that it is unlikely that Trump will resist arrest.

After the Manhattan grand jury decided to indict Trump in a case involving his hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels, DeSantis tweeted a few hours later.

Daniels claims that while Trump was running for president in 2016, he had an affair with her.
