Special Counsel Has Subpoenaed Former Trump Attorney Rudy Giuliani in Sweeping Criminal Probe

According to an exclusive new CNN story, special counsel Jack Smith’s team has subpoenaed Donald Trump’s former attorney Rudy Giuliani.

According to the allegation, the special counsel probe has ordered Giuliani to turn over information to a federal grand jury to investigate Donald Trump’s fundraising after the 2020 election.

CNN reports that the subpoena was issued more than a month ago and has not previously been published. The subpoenas for other witnesses, in addition to Giuliani, were issued in late December, according to the article.

The probe is requesting papers from Giuliani regarding payments he got while campaigning for Donald Trump.

Prosecutors have issued subpoenas to other Trump supporters, specifically requesting papers linked to the Save America PAC. This is Trump’s primary fundraising event.

“Save America was part of broader fundraising efforts by Trump and the Republican Party that raised more than $250 million after the election,” CNN notes. “Since then, the political action committee has compensated several lawyers who now represent Trump and his allies in January 6-related investigations.”

Because the CNN report does not identify its sources, the information looks to be an unlawful “leak” to the press.

Jack Smith, the Special Counsel hired by the Department of Justice to investigate the Mar-a-Lago documents case, was involved in an infamous Supreme Court decision that rejected a political prosecution, as well as the IRS’s scandalous targeting of conservative non-profit groups.

Smith, a former chief of the DOJ’s public integrity unit, abandoned his position as a war crimes prosecutor in The Hague to take on the role.

“According to Mr. Pilger, the Justice Department convened a meeting with former IRS official Lois Lerner in October 2010 to discuss how the IRS could assist in the criminal enforcement of campaign-finance laws against politically active nonprofits,” the committee said in a 2014 letter to DOJ. “This meeting was arranged at the direction of Public Integrity Section Chief Jack Smith.”

“It is apparent that the Department’s leadership, including Public Integrity Section Chief Jack Smith, was closely involved in engaging with the IRS in wake of Citizens United and political pressure from prominent Democrats to address perceived problems with the decision,” the letter added.

The Treasury Department Inspector General issued a report concluding that the IRS’s targeting of conservative groups was improper, and the tax agency later apologized.

“The IRS used inappropriate criteria that identified for review Tea Party and other organizations applying for tax-exempt status based upon their names or policy positions instead of indications of potential political campaign intervention,” the report concluded.

As a result, the Special Counsel designated by the Department of Justice has a long history of partisanship. Nonetheless, the Biden administration has engaged Jack Smith to examine his perspective 2024 opponent.
