Early results from Elon Musk’s poll on Twitter indicate that slightly more than half of the respondents favored restoring former President Donald Trump to the site.
“Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” tweeted Musk, mere minutes after posting the poll at 7:47 p.m. Friday. The Latin phrase means “the voice of the people is the voice of God.” The poll was set to remain open for 24 hours.
More than 13.8 million votes have been cast as of 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, with the supporters of the reinstatement of Trump maintaining a 51.9% to 48.1% lead.
Musk boasted in another tweet at around 4 a.m. on Saturday, “Trump poll getting 1M votes/hour!”
After pro-Trump support surged to an early lead Friday night, Becker News CEO and former Fox News associate producer Kyle Becker tweeted, “Dems are going to need to stop the count so they can haul in some mail-in votes.”
Hours after deferring the decision to allow Trump back on Twitter while announcing the lifting of bans on three other suspended accounts, Musk published his poll.
“Trump decision has not yet been made,” Musk tweeted on Friday.
The controversial author Jordan Peterson, the satirical news site the Babylon Bee, and the outspoken comedian Kathy Griffin have all been reinstated, according to the tech tycoon.
Since the US Capitol Riot on January 6, 2021, Trump has been barred from the platform. Musk, who paid $44 billion to acquire Twitter, has long promised to lift the ban.
Trump, on the other hand, has pledged to continue using Truth Social, the social media platform he developed after being banned from popular platforms as a result of the Capitol incident.
If Musk reinstates Trump, major firms who advertise on Twitter have reportedly vowed to cut off their relationships with the platform.
