As per a report by NBC News on February 26, a member of the United States Air Force who protested against the Israel-Hamas conflict by self-immolation outside Israel’s Embassy in Washington, DC, has passed away. The individual has been identified by police authorities as a 25-year-old named Aaron Bushnell from San Antonio, Texas.

The Fire and Emergency Medical Service Department of the District of Columbia received a report of a man ablaze in front of the Israeli embassy at noon on February 25. However, by the time firefighters arrived, members of the US Secret Service had already extinguished the flames.
Bushnell was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital with critical injuries and tragically succumbed to them. Various sources reported that an Air Force representative verified Bushnell’s status as an active-duty airman. His LinkedIn profile indicates he was also pursuing studies in software engineering and had been employed at a company named DevOps since March 2023.
Before his protest at the embassy, the airman shared a link on his Facebook page a few hours earlier. The post, subsequently removed by authorities, advocated for drastic measures in response to the Israeli military’s extensive bombings in Gaza and the perceived support of the United States for what was described as Israel’s “genocide” against Palestinians.
