On Sunday, President Biden visited Vietnam, where he was quickly taken past the mausoleum of Communist leader Ho Chi Minh and eventually to the headquarters of the Communist Party. During his visit, he and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong formalized a new diplomatic agreement aimed at strengthening the relationship between the two nations concerning Communist China.

In Vietnam, a country marked by one of America’s most polarizing conflicts, President Biden delivered a speech that concluded rather abruptly.

“We talked about at the conference overall, we talked about stability. We talked about making sure that the third world, the, excuse me, third world, the Southern Hemisphere, had access to changes… had access. It wasn’t confrontational at all…” Biden said while stammering.

His advisors promptly intervened.

Biden discussed a fresh era of collaboration in Vietnam and further stated that he does not aim to restrain Communist China, despite its regional hostilities and encroachments against the United States.

“This can be the beginning of even a greater era of cooperation. I think we have an enormous opportunity. Vietnam and the United States are critical partners at what I would argue is a very critical time. I’m not saying that to be polite. I’m saying it because I mean it from the bottom of my heart.”

Subsequently, he touched upon the subject of Communist China.

“Really, what this trip was about — it was less about containing China. I don’t want to contain China. I just want to make sure we have a relationship with China that is on the up and up, squared away. I want to see China succeed economically. But I want them to succeed by the rules.”

President Joe Biden is currently under scrutiny regarding his son’s acceptance of substantial funding from Chinese businessmen with ties to the CCP.
