A disturbing video of bullies beating a youngster with Down syndrome inside a high school bathroom in a Chicago suburb has surfaced.
In the video, which was captured on Thursday at York Community High School in Elmhurst, the cruel pupils can be seen shoving the boy to the ground while other children applaud them.
“Get him! ” The attackers yell as the victim hides in a stall to try to get away from the abuse and taunts.
School District 205 authorities acknowledged on Monday that additional pupils had access to the frightening video.
“Immediately upon receiving this report, our school team began investigating. Parents were contacted and students were interviewed. Upon completion of the investigation by the school, appropriate consequences will be issued to those involved,” principal Shahe Bagdasarian said.
Parents were told by Superintendent Keisha Campbell in an email on Sunday that several spectators stood and laughed as the youngster was attacked.
“We are deeply disappointed and saddened by the actions of this small group of students. Bullying, intimidation, and harassment diminish a student’s ability to learn and a school’s ability to educate. Such behaviors are not tolerated, and any student who chooses to engage in these behaviors will face the appropriate consequences,” Superintendent Keisha Campbell said.
Cris O’Connell, whose son attends the York High School Transition Center, a facility for kids with intellectual disabilities, claimed to have learned of the incident only on Facebook.
According to the furious mother, the incident incited fury among other parents, who revealed their own stories of bullying at school.
