Many analysts have already begun posing significant questions about what will occur in 2024 as they sort through the fallout from the midterm elections. President Joe Biden seems determined to seek reelection, if circumstances permit, but the prospects for the GOP candidacy appear far less solid. Donald Trump, a former president, appears to want to run for office once more, but an increasing number of observers believe this is a dangerous idea.

Mediaite reported that during a recent interview on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” Mick Mulvaney, who served as acting White House chief of staff during Trump’s presidency, claimed that Trump was the “only Republican who could lose” in 2024. Mulvaney said in the interview that if the 45th president campaigned against Joe Biden, his shortcomings as a leader would matter much less. He also said that, like in 2020, the election would turn into a vote on Trump.
The former White House employee also mentioned a few Republicans who, in his opinion, would make better choices than the outgoing president. These people included former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former Vice President Mike Pence, Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R).
Following the events of January 6, 2021, Mulvaney left the Trump administration. At the time, he served as special envoy to Northern Ireland.
