Former President Donald Trump attacked Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin on Friday, saying the latter’s last name “Sounds Chinese,” and asserting that the governor could not have possibly secured a seat without his support in 2017.

“Young Kin, now that’s an interesting take. Sounds Chinese, doesn’t it?, in Virginia couldn’t have won without me. I Endorsed him, did a very big Trump Rally for him telephonically, got MAGA to Vote for him – or he couldn’t have come close to winning. But he knows that and admits it. Besides, having a hard time with the Dems in Virginia – But he’ll get it done,” in a string of posts on Truth Social, the 45th president made a statement.

Trump participated at a phone rally for Youngkin during the governor’s campaign, but he never traveled to Virginia to campaign in person. Youngkin narrowly defeated Terry McAuliffe, a Democrat, for governor of the commonwealth; many political analysts credited Youngkin’s victory to his ability to successfully distance himself from Trump.

Youngkin said that Trump’s remarks were not how he typically rolls and behaves when questioned about them on Friday.

The former president has criticized members of his own party with racial comments before. On September 20, Trump made the statement that Elaine Chao, the wife of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), was a “China-loving Coco Chow,” which many people saw as being racist.

The unusual declaration on Friday came after Trump’s attack on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Thursday, which came in advance of the real estate mogul’s anticipated declaration on November 15 that he will run for president in 2024.

“Now that the Election in Florida is over, and everything went quite well, shouldn’t it be said that in 2020, I got 1.1 Million more votes in Florida than Ron D got this year, 5.7 Million to 4.6 Million? Just asking? ”

A few hours later, Trump dubbed the governor of Florida “Ron DeSanctimonious” and said that he was joking about about a prospective bid for president in 2024.

In a Thursday post to Truth Social, Trump said he sent the FBI and US Attorneys to fix DeSantis’ campaign, just as he had done with Youngkin’s victory.
