Liberal media organizations and journalists are under fire for abruptly reporting on the Inflation Reduction Act in a different way after it was passed because it won’t actually decrease inflation.
Kaitlan Collins, CNN’s lead White House correspondent, described the legislation as the climate, tax, and health care bill as President Biden prepared to sign it.
Like many other media sites, Reuters likewise abandoned the claim that the measure aimed to lower inflation.
ABC’s Jonathan Karl said it’s “almost Orwellian” how the Democrats were initially, at least, marketing it as the Inflation Reduction Act, noting that the neutral Congressional Budget Office stated the law will have a negligible influence on inflation in the near future.
Sen. Bernie Sanders also criticized the legislation, noting that “the CBO and other economic organizations that study this bill, say it will, in fact, have a minimal impact on inflation.” Sen. Joe Manchin recognized the plan won’t have an impact on inflation anytime soon.
The largest climate bill in American history, totaling $430 billion, was signed into law by President Joe Biden on Tuesday. It is intended to reduce domestic greenhouse gas emissions as well as excessive inflation and the cost of prescription drugs.
Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia, whose backing was essential to the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act along party lines after he blockaded much greater measures urged by the White House, joined Biden at a White House event.
