Articles of Impeachment Filed Against Top Biden Official

Since President Joe Biden assumed office, conservatives have been enraged by border issues. Nonetheless, because the president was supported by two Democratic majorities in Congress until recently, Republicans had few opportunities to question him or his supporters in Washington, DC. With the House now under Republican control, the Republicans have chosen to launch impeachment proceedings against Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

Rep. Pat Fallon (R-TX) proposed impeachment articles against Mayorkas, stating the Biden official hasn’t done enough to strengthen southern border security despite the long-running issue there. After submitting the impeachment application, Fallon issued a statement accusing the official of “willfully [abdicating] his duties” as well as “actively [misleading] Congress and the American people.”

Mayorkas will be impeached if the House of Representatives votes to approve Fallon’s articles of impeachment. Following this, the Senate would convene a trial to determine if his actions met the “high crimes and misdemeanors” level required to confirm impeachment.

The Department of Homeland Security also issued a statement in response to its coverage of this story. It blamed Secretary Mayorkas’ troubles on a “broken system and outmoded laws” concerning immigration. It was also claimed that these laws had been in effect for decades. The Republicans targeting Mayorkas were also charged by the agency of failing to “come to the table and collaborate on solutions.”

Despite the high level of criticism surrounding border security throughout Joe Biden’s presidency, the situation appears to be as terrible as ever. According to a recent Reuters report on the issue, US Border Patrol agents made the most arrests in 2022. The magazine did add, however, that some of these numbers would have been repeated arrests following Title 42 expulsions.
