Hawaii Helicopter Crash Leaves 2 Injured After Plunging Into Lava Field

After a helicopter crashed into a lava field, two individuals were critically injured, including a teen girl.

On Wednesday, about 5.30 p.m. local time, a tourist helicopter landed near South Point, Hawaii.

Six persons were on board the Bell 407 helicopter, which belonged to Paradise Helicopters, at the time of the crash, according to Cyrus Johnasen of Hawaii County.

Officials stated the pilot, a 50-year-old male, and a 19-year-old girl were found in critical condition and were taken to a hospital, according to Hawaii News Now.

According to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, her condition looked to be deteriorating at the time.

Before being rescued, the pilot was stuck inside the plane. The ambulance took two ladies, ages 18 and 19, and a male, age 23, to the hospital. The highly damaged chopper’s twisted wreckage has been uploaded on social media. The rotor of the helicopter appears twisted, and the doors are dangling off their hinges.

Hawaii County Mayor Mitch Roth described the situation as fluid. Authorities are working with the corporation.Because firefighters couldn’t reach the wreckage by road, they had to rely on helicopters to save the victims.The plane crashed on Hawaii’s Big Island’s southernmost tip.

In February, a US Navy contractor’s helicopter crashed on the island of Kauai, killing four people.

Pilot Daniel Maurice, 64, Patrick Rader, 55, Erika Tevez-Valdez, 42, and Matthew Haider, 44, were among the casualties.
